Convenience is one of the major perks to living in NYC. When it comes to flying the "friendly skies" (sad that the term is a bit out of date, no?), our airports are a great jumping off point to destinations around the globe. You can fly direct most anywhere from here, which makes life easy, especially if you're not a big fan of flying in the first place.
I would fall in to this category.
Getting TO the airport used to be pretty easy as well... as in, grabbing a taxi outside your apartment door. The subway runs to JFK, which is a super cheap option if you have the time. Most convenient for us, though, is Newark. We can walk to Penn Station and take NJ transit 3 stops out to the airport. Done and done.
Now enter Baby S and her car seat. Her heavy &*#@! (but necessary) car seat. We've flown once already with her, which required hiring a car service (maybe it was the Lincoln Continental, but this seemed a bit more safe than your average taxi...) and it wasn't too bad. Of course, Husband might tell you a different story as he was the one lugging the aforementioned car seat through the airport.

With no trusty Husband on this trip (he's staying behind to re-live the glory days of bachelorhood, and oh yeah... work) Baby S and I must manage on our own. Fortunately, there will be a car seat waiting for her when we arrive, so no lugging heavy plastic around for me. I'll just have a baby on my chest. And a big ol' suitcase. And a diaper bag. And my patience, most importantly.
Wish me luck!

Can't wait to see you at the other end of your journey! :)
Good luck! Things like that are my biggest stressors.
Best of luck! I can't imagine flying with my three boys...one of which is a baby! Best of luck. The flight staff will probably be quite helpful if you need it :O)
Take care,
Tracy
You'll be fine!! And you can hand Baby S over to Grandma as soon as you see her and collapse with exhaustion!
I think you should update us on how the flight actually went! Can't wait to see you both!
Just found your blog on Theta Mom and wanted to say best of luck! We just returned from a trip to Maui a few weeks ago and I remember being just as nervous for the flight. My best tip is to pack mini "diaper bags" you can take with you into the airplane bathroom (if the situation arises): 1 diaper, a few wipes, and a disposable change pad. SO much more convenient to take into those teeny bathrooms! Cheers! New follower! :)
Saw your fabulous description over at TMC and had to pop by. (Even though I vow not to blog on weekends.) Loving your site already. Particularly because I too am a NYC mom (of two). Was born and raised here, but this city never ceases to baffle me. I think we have plenty to chat about, huh?
Loved this post!
