Big Apple Books: Coco Le Chat in NYC

I recently sat down for coffee & croissants with Jennifer Cascino, the illustrator of my newest Big Apple Books find: The Adventures of Coco Le Chat: The World's Most Fashionable Feline. Such fun! Jennifer is a talented & savvy art director/graphic designer/illustrator/author extraordinaire, not to mention mama to a sweet little boy.

I love how this book came together. Jennifer first met author Nadine Rubin Nathan at a new moms' group in Brooklyn, where they quickly learned they had much in common in addition to motherhood. Together with Nadine's husband, photographer Paul Nathan, the idea for Coco le Chat was born shortly thereafter (Paul is a noted photographer of animals amongst other subjects).

Truly a collaborative effort, Coco and her outfits set the scene for a tale of fun & frolic in New York City told by Nadine, photographed by Paul and beautifully illustrated by Jennifer. It all fits so well together! While Coco visits everywhere from Broadway, the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as shopping at all the finest stores, at the end of the day, what she really wants is a friend to share her adventures.

Considering the time of year, I should mention that The Adventures of Coco le Chat would make a great gift for any little kiddo who loves kitties and has a flair for fashion and friendship. With plans for additional adventures in the mix, we'll see where Coco and her friend head next!
